CalenDear ("the App") is a shared calendar, chore, and grocery organizer for families. We built it privacy-first: your family's information stays with you, and the small amount of data that ever leaves your device is stripped of names before it goes. This policy explains what data the App handles, how it is used, and your choices.
Everything you create in CalenDear — family member profiles, calendar events, to-dos and chores, grocery lists, rewards and stars — is stored on your device and synced across your family's devices through your own Apple iCloud account (Apple's CloudKit).
Voice input and speech recognition, grocery aisle sorting, and — for everyone by default — natural-language "quick add" run entirely on your device using Apple's on-device AI. The text and audio involved are processed locally and are not sent to us or anyone else.
For CalenDear+ subscribers, quick add uses a more capable cloud model for a sharper reading of what you type. Before your phrase is sent, every family member's name is replaced with a neutral placeholder (e.g. "Kid A"); the real names are restored only on your device in the result, so no real name reaches the third-party model. This request is handled the same way as Smart Insights (Section 3): used solely to produce that one result and not stored, logged, or retained on our server. The on-device model remains the fallback whenever the cloud is unavailable.
If you subscribe to CalenDear+, the App can generate weekly digests and chore-fairness check-ins. To produce these, the App sends a short pseudonymized summary of your upcoming schedule and chore counts to our server. Before anything leaves your device:
If you enable the optional external-calendar feature, CalenDear reads events from the calendars already on your device (Apple Calendar, and Google or Outlook if you've added those accounts in iOS Settings). This access is read-only — CalenDear never edits or adds anything to those calendars. What it reads is displayed on your device and, if you choose to share it with your family, synced through your own iCloud as described in Section 1. It is never sent to our servers.
CalenDear+ subscriptions are purchased and managed through Apple's App Store. Apple handles all payment information; we never see your payment details. To confirm an active subscription, the App sends Apple's cryptographically signed subscription receipt to our server for verification. This receipt confirms subscription status only and contains no personal information about you or your family.
CalenDear is a family-organizer app set up and controlled by a parent or guardian. Children's names and profiles are created by the adult running the family, are stored in that family's private iCloud (Section 1), and are never sent to our servers. The only features that reach our server — Smart Insights and CalenDear+ cloud quick add — replace every real name with a placeholder first (Sections 2 and 3), so a child's real name never leaves the device. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children directly.
Because your family's data lives in your own iCloud, you control it. You can delete any item, or use "Erase All Data" in the App's Settings to remove everything. Deleting the App and removing its data from iCloud removes it entirely. We hold no server-side copy to delete.
We may update this policy as the App evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new "Last updated" date.
